About

Herb Babcock

Evolution of the “Pillared Series” occupies the focus of my glass and metal sculpture. I explore a quiet, meditative balance in my work. Habatat Galleries, representing me since their beginning, shows my newest work.

It is a privilege to have several works in prominent public Detroit locations. The two pieces at Campus Martius, The Monroe Marker and Woodward Marker, demonstrate that glass can thrive in outdoor, public display. “Superior” is one of five sculptures installed in the “Living Room” of the new MGM Grand Hotel.

The most recent completed public work was a 20 foot tall glass and steel sculpture for the Herbert-Herman Cancer Center, Sparrow Health System, Lansing, Michigan.

A permanent installation on the other side of the world is “Young Bamboo In Wind,” a large-scale sculpture 22 feet tall. This commission was dedicated at the First International Glass Exhibit in Hsinchu, Taiwan.

As Professor Emeritus, Section Chairman of Glass Studio at the College for Creative Studies, I now work predominately in my new studio in Ann Arobr, Michigan.
