DESCRIPTION:9th Annual Glass Eggstravagansa\n\n\n\nWhen: March 28 & 29\, 10-4pm\nWhere: Dearborn Studio \n\n\nOne-of-a-kind gallery egg hunt and glassblowing demonstrations \n\n\nThe 10th annual “Glass Eggstravaganza” starts March 28 & 29th\, 10-4pm at Dearborn’s Glass Academy (25331 Trowbridge\, Dearborn\, MI 48124). \nThis show spotlights our signature spring glass creations for purchase—including the decorative glass birds known as Glassy Chicks; our signature striped\, spotted\, and speckled glass eggs; and our classic Nest Bowls and the all favorite:  The Bunny Chick!!! \nAll glassware is available for purchase\, and special commissions will be accepted all weekend during the show. Free live glassblowing demonstrations are scheduled throughout the day\, making this a family friendly\, date friendly\, and educational show. Free street parking will be available all weekend. \nEvery year\, the Glass Academy features a decorative spring-themed environment\, making the gallery feel like an adult-styled egg hunt with colorful\, handcrafted glass eggs\, chicks\, and nest bowls on display. “Our Glass Eggstravaganza is getting a reputation as a fun-loving egg hunt for adults because of the unique setting we stage it in\,” explains Michelle Plucinsky\, the co-creator of the Glass Academy. “Just when you think you’ve seen every egg style in the gallery\, you’ll see another one or two calling out to you to take it home in your own personal Easter basket!” \n“The fact that you can shop from these interesting\, colorful displays makes the shopping experience fun for adults\,” says Lenora Sheeran\, display artist. “The work is museum-quality glassware and the live demonstrations allow you to understand the process of glassblowing\, what techniques and passion went into making the glassware displayed in the gallery. My personal favorites are the Glassy Chicks that watch from the ledges in the gallery with wide open eyes and bright spring colors. They are just adorable!” \nEducational live glassblowing demonstrations take place during the opening show weekend from 10am to 4pm. Special commission are accepted and encouraged. “These special commissions are crowd favorites\, where our customers get to design their own colors in our spring line and we make their designs in glass come to life with our talented craftsmen\,” says Chris Nordin\, co-owner of the Glass Academy. “This is the fun part where families will stay for hours to enjoy the demonstrations and learn something new\, then purchase a souvenir of handcrafted glass from the gallery as a family keepsake.” \nPrices start at $28 for the smaller eggs\, with Glass Chicks starting at $88. The gallery is host to other glass products with seasonal appeal\, including pumpkins\, ornaments\, and the Michigan Pine™\, a studio master-designed product from artist Chris Nordin. \n“Glass Eggstravaganza” runs thru April 30th featuring the spring product line of Glassy Chicks\, Nest Bowls\, and glass eggs. DESCRIPTION:You design it\, we make it! Glassblowing is complicated\, let us do the hard work while you relax and enjoy yourself and be amazed by the glass blowing process. \nWork with our team of our talented Master Craftsmen to create unique drinkware that is exclusive to you!  You’ll be the designer for this unique course where the item to be made can be a mug\, wine glass\, rocks glass and other styles of drinkware.  You’ll be able to design the basics like the ounce size\, colors to be used\, patterns and designs in the glass\, and handle and foot if desired.  \nYOUR perfect drinking vessel can be any of the following items: mugs\, snifters\, rocks glasses\, and wine glasses or tumblers are all possibilities that can be made once you to talk with the craftsmen. \nOnce the style and design is drawn out on the hot shop floor in chalk\, the glassblowing begins!  Get your camera ready\, you’ll be in the hot seat answering questions about size and shape as we blow your vessel right in front of you.  It is truly magical! \nBYOB is an option\, as well as bringing food and friends\, so consider who you’d like to enjoy this time with as you watch and enjoy our master craftsmen make the  one of a kind\, drinking vessel JUST FOR YOU!  This makes this class the perfect gift for anyone on your bucket list for something truly unique and magical. \nAnyone\, any age can attend this class and since we are making the vessel\, while you WATCH\, you can dress how ever you like as we’ll be doing the dirty work.  We do suggest layers of clothes in the winter months as the studio is a warehouse and will be cooler. \n*Please note:  the glass must cool from 1200 degrees to room temperature after crafting. 48 hours after your class\, your project will be available for pickup in the studio gallery during normal gallery hours.  Shipping is available. \nNow it’s time to choose a date to reserve your spot!

DESCRIPTION:Tour the hottest glass studio in Metro Detroit! \nFounding artists Michelle Plucinsky and Chris Nordin open their doors for a private\, behind the scene tour of thier glass studio; The Glass Academy\, Friday’s at 2pm.   \nThe couple is known internationally for their imaginative works in glass  and thier staged studio shows featuring preformances of live glassblowing select weekends in the Dearborn studio. \nThis 45-minute tour will highlight the current projects happening in this large expansive art studio.  What seasonal items are being made?  Where do they get inspiration from?  How do they color the glass?  All this and MORE will be covered in this incredible behind the scenes tour. \nThe Glass Academy is the largest  (12\,000sq. ft.!!) studio in the Midwest.  Featuring a gallery filled with handcrafted glass items\, a hot shop area to watch and try glassblowing\, and fabrication area for metal and wood accents along side the large studio sculptures. \nDuring the day\, the hot shop functions as a manufacturing studio for the fabrication of glass awards\, special custom orders and sculptures for local clients.   Unique works of art for home decor and functional drinkware sold in the gallery are also made during the day shift. \nAt night\, the studio comes alive with people coming from all over Michigan to try hand’s on class experiences using molten glass.   All classes taught in our studio are original designs so they are exclusive to our studio.   Items like the Michigan Icicle (TM) or the Percolla Reed (TM)\, a decorative glass garden accent\, are seasonal items that customers can make year round.   Find the current class schedule online at www.GlassAcademy.com \nIn the 4\,000sq. ft. gallery\, customers can find glass items for the home\, both functional and decorative\, showcasing a great selection of one of a kind\, handcrafted beer mugs\, pumpkins\, ornaments\, and more. \nLimited tickets available so the tour is intimate\, and each ticket holder will receive 10% off any item in the gallery and a special thank you gift. \nThis studio is unlike any other public accessed glass shop and must be visited!

DESCRIPTION:Your experience will start with a tour of our studio so you’ll begin to understand the range of glassmaking items that are possible within the field and other important things like the bathroom and a safety check. \nOnce you are introduced to your instructor\, they will start with a demonstration of the 3 activities you will be participating in during this experience. \nYour first activity will be our Big Bubble Blow; this will show you how much pressure is needed to fill molten glass with air from your lungs. The trick here it to create a perfect round bubble. \nNext\, we’ll teach you how to use some of the sculpting and blowing tools. With one gather of molten glass\, you’ll be making a sculptural item. Twist\, pull\, and reheat the glass to understand how to move with a 5’ pipe of molten glass without dropping it on the floor\, learning how to use gravity and other tricks of the trade. \nNow that you have gained some perspective on the world of glass\, you will be making a drinking vessel. That’s a conversation with your instructor\, some drawing and discussing necessary step to use everything you’ve learned. You’ll get to make your choice of a cup\, rocks glass or shot glass! \n  \nBring your camera or phone; there are so many opportunities for great images to be taken. \n  \nIf you have any questions\, please feel free to call the studio at 313-561-4527. \n  \nChoose a date above to reserve your spot!

Glassblowing is complicated\, let us do the hard work while you relax and enjoy yourself and be amazed by the glass blowing process. \nWork with our team of our talented Master Craftsmen to create unique drinkware that is exclusive to you!  You’ll be the designer for this unique course where the item to be made can be a mug\, wine glass\, rocks glass and other styles of drinkware.  You’ll be able to design the basics like the ounce size\, colors to be used\, patterns and designs in the glass\, and handle and foot if desired.  \nYOUR perfect drinking vessel can be any of the following items: mugs\, snifters\, rocks glasses\, and wine glasses or tumblers are all possibilities that can be made once you to talk with the craftsmen. \nOnce the style and design is drawn out on the hot shop floor in chalk\, the glassblowing begins!  Get your camera ready\, you’ll be in the hot seat answering questions about size and shape as we blow your vessel right in front of you.  It is truly magical! \nBYOB is an option\, as well as bringing food and friends\, so consider who you’d like to enjoy this time with as you watch and enjoy our master craftsmen make the  one of a kind\, drinking vessel JUST FOR YOU!  This makes this class the perfect gift for anyone on your bucket list for something truly unique and magical. \nAnyone\, any age can attend this class and since we are making the vessel\, while you WATCH\, you can dress how ever you like as we’ll be doing the dirty work.  We do suggest layers of clothes in the winter months as the studio is a warehouse and will be cooler. \n*Please note:  the glass must cool from 1200 degrees to room temperature after crafting. 48 hours after your class\, your project will be available for pickup in the studio gallery during normal gallery hours.  Shipping is available. \nNow it’s time to choose a date to reserve your spot!

SUMMARY:Vinotappo- a wine stopper class experience
DESCRIPTION:This 1.5 hour class will consist of students working with our talented instructors to create\, shape and form a Vinotappo wine stopper.  No experience necessary for this fun and unusual class! \nCOLOR CHOICES: \nWhite\, Red\, Blue\, Green\, Yellow\, Orange \nColor is applied in various forms to create designs in the glass or on the surface of the glass. \nThis is a beginner level class\, no experience working with glass is needed and we supply all the tools\, color\, and materials.  You will make one wine stopper per class but can sign up multiple times to make more. \nWhat should I expect when I come to the class? \nOur instructors will start out by giving you a bit of background information on the Vinotappo wine stopper  Then you’ll know exactly what it is your making and why. Next comes a demonstration on how the product is crafted\, what the finished product will look like. \nWe’ll explain hot shop safety zones\, how to sit at the bench and use glass specific tools\, then you’ll be ready to start.  Students will then step over to the bench to make their wine stoppers using supplies and color specifically set aside for this class. \nTeachers will demonstrate color patterns\, shapes\, and styles\, along with gathering the glass\, turning the pipe\, and keeping the glass on the punti rod. \nWatching others is the best way to learn techniques so be prepared to sit and watch fellow students as they make their wine stoppers.  You may go first and be done\, or you may be last and will get your turn after the other students have gone.  Remember\, you’ll learn by watching so it’s important to watch others and learn how to work with the glass.  At times you’ll participate as a group so be sure to bring your camera and feel free to ask others to take that perfect shot if you attend the class alone. \n  \nWill I be going home with the finished glass wine stopper tonight? \nOnce colored and formed\, the student’s wine stoppers will go into a cooling oven to relieve stress and be brought to room temperature.  This process is called annealing and takes about 12 hours. \nNew to the studio? \nAlso included in this class is a behind the scenes tour of the Glass Academy.  Projects the studio is working on\, new shows and events coming up\, and a chance to talk with the staff about all your glass questions.  The tour takes 10-15 minutes depending on the size and questions in the group.  You’re guaranteed to learn something new about the Glass Academy during this tour\, from the founding partners to the history of the studio and upcoming projects. \nWhat to wear: \nThe studio could possibly be cool and nice in the winter/fall months or hot and sticky if it’s summer.  However\, inside\, it’s always bursting with excitement and possibility!  Cotton clothing is a best\, regular jeans are ok and layers work best to stay warm/cool as needed.  Open toed shoes\, flip-flops\, and heels are not an option; you will not be able to participate should you wear them.  Bring other shoes to change into or you’ll forfeit your class to another student or will have to reschedule ($10 fee). \nWater or sports beverages are a great idea so bring what you need. Please stay hydrated!  Water is always available during class. \nRegistration:  \nFollow the link on this web page\, or come to the studio to sign up.  Please arrive no sooner than 15 minutes prior to your class.  Expect to stay at least 1.5 hours but give yourself longer as classes may run over at times.  (This is usually due to prior students running late for class and there is no way we can ‘catch up’\, so be patient\, you’ll get the same great treatment we find it best if you don’t come in a hurry to get somewhere else.) \nAdded perks for you! \nAny class you come to and participate in\, you’ll get 20% off gallery purchases that night\, as well as when you come to pick up your work.  Ask for the special coupon when you come to the studio.
