Our current projects use glass in combination with Water Jet Cutting, CNC Mills, Laser cutters, 3D modeling and 3D printing. Modern fabrication processes allow us to advance glass applications for the studio artist as well as provide an interdisciplinary dialogue.

Andrea and Taylor are redefining what it means to be studio artists in the metro-Detroit area. Their studio, a multitude of access points to a variety of technologies, goes beyond a single physical space but centers on a core theoretical aesthetic. Their open sharing of outcome experiences through social media and in one on one presentation are a benefit to all artists.

They are currently the featured artists at the Glass 2013, Janice Charach Gallery, JCC-Detroit, West Bloomfield, MI, through May 16.

I’ve been busy this late winter shooting artwork for the Kresge Foundation Grant applications, and pieces that will be featured in Habatat Gallery’s upcoming 41st Annual International Glass Invitational Award Exhibition, as well as work for the Spring issue of Urban Glass’ GLASS Quarterly Magazine.

I feel very fortunate to meet and work with so many different glass artists. It’s interesting too see what happens when they bring their favorite pieces to be photographed. Each piece that undergoes the “spotlight” has it’s own presence. Some photograph much more easily than others, but the energy of each piece speaks for itself in the end. My challenge is to help each one to look it’s best.

When I’m not shooting, I enjoy glass blowing. I began as a glass artist in 1998, and am certain that I will pursue my glass passion, in one way or another, for the rest of my life. My work has been represented at the Toledo Museum of Art’s Collector’s Corner, Water Street Gallery in Douglas, MI and recently at the Sleeping Bear Gallery in Empire, MI.

Here are some examples of my work:

I am in the process of updating my website. In the meantime, you can view my profile here.

Just this past year, Andrew Madvin and his Detroit Axiom Glass Studio were commissioned to create custom glass fixtures and accents for the new World Financial Center in New York, NY.

These dazzling glass pieces will be in a public space in the “market garden terrace” where patrons can view over 600 cast glass elements made in his Detroit studio. “The work really is a testament to the rebuilding of a nation,” comments Andrew Madvin, “we are excited to be part of this project and honored to have our work in this symbolic rebuilding and rebirth of the twin towers.”

For details and to find out when the project will be completed, click here to view Andrew’s profile on the Michigan Glass site.
